I am hoping someone can tell me a film where she didn't look,speak and act the same in every film. She is like a female Clint Eastwood. Great guy, good director...not a great actor. I think the definition of a great actor is that you can portray many different people and become or channel them (Gary Oldman,Meryl Streep, etc.). Am I alone on this?

You're telling me Sammy Prescot, Abigail Adams, Wendy Savage, Claire Kane, Clara McMillen, Joan Berkman, Erin Bruner, Annabeth Markum are all the same character? Those are all incredibly different women with incredibly different problems in incredibly different situations.
The definition of a great actor is that they make you forget you are watching an actor. Doing that in an understated, natural way like Linney does doesn't mean she is any less of an actress than Streep or Oldman.

Yeh , but look at George Clooney(Same uncle steve/lawyer type character in a biz suit) Keanu Reeves, Nic Cage, Tom cruise, Vince Vaughn etc.. almost EVERY actor/actress is the same character in every movie.

Acting like someone else isn't acting. Acting isn't playing dress up and consciously pretending to be someone else. True acting is when the actor truly understands the character they play and truly become that person; they think as that character, the movie like them, they speak like them. True acting is when the line between the actor and the character is completely blurred. How many films have you even seen her in?
And since when are George Clooney and Nicolas Cage not considered great actors? Hell add, Cruise to that list.

There that's 8 great performances from him off the top of my head. If you're going to bring up his recent films don't bother. He takes risks, they don't always pay off but he's one of the only actors who actively tries to challenge himself time and time again. And the heights he's achieved speak for themselves.
And for the record, read what I wrote. I said he was considered a great actor, which is true. That's undeniable.

I agree, Murmur, I don't understand when people say she's the same in every film either. From the first film I saw her in, I immediately saw the perfect balance of natural talent and carefully refined skill. In fact, she's one of the few actresses out there who I truly believe is great, not just passable. Compare her, for instance, in Primal Fear and John Adams. Both characterizations are dead on and neither is remotely similar to the other.
