Sybil (2007) with Jessica Lange and Tammy Blanchard (video)
It's not available on DVD/BluRay or any streaming services.
What an overlooked little gem. It doesn't come near the original's grittiness, but it doesn't try to.
This version of the infamous myth of "Sybil" has more of an old-fashioned circa the 1950's/1960's drama/film-noir aesthetic. It works beautifully.
Blanchard is searing and revelatory, while Lange gives a powerfully understated performance. Both actresses bounce wonderfully against each other and appear here as we've not seen them before.
JoBeth Williams is also good.
I was reminded of this on twitter (from a tweet by Horace and Pete, another masterpiece Lange has a supporting role in).
Watching it now, I feel all warm and cozy and nostalgic, like bumping into a really good old black-and-white film on late tv.
