Has Peter commented honestly about why The Hobbit trilogy didn't meet the audience's expectations? By the way, does he hold the record for directing the most films in a franchise? Thanks.

I vaguely remember hearing that he did even though I personally enjoyed The Hobbit films.

Yes. He literally had no idea what he was doing. He was a replacement director .
