Happy 69th

To Juliet in the 1968 Classic! I'm reading her autobiography, The Girl on the Balcony. Interesting and worth reading if you want a glimpse of teen celebrity life in the '60s.

The first film I saw her in was "The Battle of the Villa Fiorita", which was also her first film period. She was 13 or 14 when it was released and was a pretty decent flick. Sadly, it has never been released to DVD, but I hope it is one day.

As an aside, I never saw "Romeo and Juliet"

I never saw Villa Fiorita. But you've gotta see R&J: it's definitely the definitive one.

reply

Yeah, agreed. I believe this version gets a fair amount of criticism but the youthfulness and beauty of the leads just blows all that away.

I saw "The " Battle". She was one cruel, spoiled brat. However it was a decent film. I also saw her in "Lost Horizons". She was pregnant with her son. R&J was the best!

I read it when it first came out. I am glad she cleared the air about her relationship with her costar Leonard. I was an infant then, but read how fans of that era, wanted them to marry, since they briefly dated. Their onscreen chemistry was amazing, but sometimes people are only meant to be pals. In their case, lifelong buddies. The book was pretty good. She was brave to live in Sharon Tate's house, after the murder. I would have been creeped out. I think she stated she was still close with surviving Martin siblings, her ex in-laws. Dean was not mentioned much, but I am assuming they got along. At least I do not recall.

I think she saw Dean around, but not much. Weird her husband Dean Junior was a conservative; she isn't of course. I hate that she lost all her money due to a Hollywood scam artist.

I recall when Dean Paul died in '87, there were rumors they might attempt to reconnect years after divorcing. I guess he never got her out of his heart, nor her regarding him. Possibly tabloid stuff. Although she did mention, he often commented about regrets their marriage did not work out. To be fair they were barely out of their teens. I think she and his mom Jean bonded. His sister Deanna's book is good as well. I saw a pic of Olivia with her grandson on YouTube in a tribute video to her.

Although at their ages, I guess she and her former costar are happily retired now. But if they were interested if the project came up for another revision of their iconic film. They could play the nurse or priest in Romeo and Juliet, or maybe the grandparents. I agree, that is sad she and her current husband were scammed. But in this world , some have no soul. It would be great if Leonard did a memoir or someone did an honest bio on him. Time will tell.

I guess she's 71 this year.
