Oscar nomination?

Quite possibly the best actress never to have been nominated, let alone won.

Most of her movies aren't exactly the Academy's cup of tea. If you look at the other French actresses who won or were nominated for an Oscar, they usually were in an English-language movie or in a more award-friendly/accessible film (Emmanuelle Riva was a rare exception). Isabelle's rare American films weren't successes (Heaven's Gate is a masterpiece, but it was refused by the public and nominated for several Razzies) and her French movies are usually too strong or inspired for Oscar taste. I'm more disappointed by the little love BAFTA has throwngh: just a best newcomer win for 'La dentellière'. Funny that the British were more open to Foreign language performances, but usually had crushes for the wrong French actresses. Anyway, she's in the company of most of the nation's finest male actors, which BAFTA never recognized.

But how many actresses have two Best Actress awards at Cannes Film Festival and two Volpi Cups (two a half considering that they gave her a special award for Gabrielle)?

reply

She's such an amazing actress ... actually she won almost an acting prize in the three major film festivals of the word (Academy members take that) if u consider the collective special award done in Berlin for "8 femmes" (Two in Cannes, Two in Venice and almost 1 in Berlin) ... only other two female thespians has a such honor ... Mrs. Binoche and Julianne Moore.

She deserved one for 8 femmes. She was brilliant.

Isabelle Huppert is beyond the Oscars. The Oscars are very bias, their minds change like the wind, their cookie cutter choices are obvious. Isabelle has been great since La Dentellière, and she was just getting started then.

Une affaire de femmes, Madame Bovary, La pianiste, La Vie Promise, Ma Mere, 8 femmes. I could go on forever.

But her talent doesn't need that kinda of popular recognition. She brings credibility to any film she's in, even when she's poking fun of her own film personas (8 Femmes). Film awards are popularity contest, not necessary a merit of acting. Anyone who knows film knows shes deserving of a lifetime achievement award. She has the talent, she has the depth, she has filmography. She's will take parts that NO mainstream actress would dare. Ma Mere alone would send most packing.

It would be nice if she was recognized for her talent. But I'm happy she's been active all these years even without accolades. Her fans know the real even if the academy doesnt.

I do agree with every point you say !! Isabelle is such a great actress !! :) After watching "Elle", I think Isabelle may be in the race this year and really deserve it !!

reply

She is a such great actress but lacks only an Oscar, please give it to her for the acclaimed movie "Elle" !!

She will be nominated for Elle and could be a contender, but at the moment my money is on Anette Benning - 4 noms and never a statue...

reply

I feel confident that Isabelle will be nominated for Elle.
