Best.Caesar.Evar.

He's definitely the best Julius Caesar in film/television history. No one else has even come close to capturing the authority, charisma, and tone of the real Caesar from the historical records. Too damn bad they rushed Rome. I think they could've done a few seasons before getting to the assassination of Caesar. The show loses probably its best character. Yeah yeah, I know, next season will be great too with the development of the Octavian/Antony rift, but still, having Hinds play Caesar was a real tour de force.

Season 2 will be interesting, I'm glad Ciaran will be back even if its for one episode, you're right they could have prolonged the assasination, but I guess the producers piggy bank was breaking. It'll be hard to envision anyone else playing Caesar, and I told him just that!

Octavian/Anthony riff has me in great suspense.

I agree. Best Caesar I've seen. Will be a good Herod in The Nativity Story, no doubt.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks they should have, I don't want to say "drag it out" but I guess it works. With Rome's history they could have had season after season. I just wanted more Ciaran as Caesar is all. Call me greedy. It's true. I missed Ciaran in the 2nd season. It just wasn't the same.
Yeah, he was an awesome Caesar. He's the only Caesar for me.

agreed! best Caesar ever! I think he must have read Colleen McCullough's Masters of Rome series - I would highly recommend these books to any fan of Rome.

AND he's from Belfast - just like me!!!

I agree completely. Of all the various performances of Julius Caesar I have seen, Ciaran Hinds' is by far the best. His portrayal is the first to make me actually care about the character; with each passing episode I felt more and more as though I were passing time with an old friend whom I loved and respected, than watching a television performance. When the assassination finally happened it was devastating.
When an actor can draw that kind of personal investment out of an audience, he is truly talented indeed.

I completely agree with you all. What drew me to HBO's "Rome" was my interest in Roman history, especially the end of the Republic and Caesar's life. Although there are some inaccuracies in the series, I was fascinated by the way Ciarán Hinds played his part. Since I'm a big fan of Julius Caesar, I've watched every movie he is in, and I've seen many versions of Shakespeare's play. Ciarán Hinds is the best Caesar I've seen, probably the closest of all to the real man. And the scene of the assassination was a great piece of acting.
