How do you pronounce his first name?

I'm sorry, I really have no idea... I find myself stumbling over his name everytime I read it somewhere.

Can anyone help me out?

Nope. No signature here. Sorry.

reply

Just pretend it's spelled "Kieran". That's close enough. (Kier being one syllable and the accented syllable of the name.)

The key point being that the "C" of Ciarán is a "K" sound (never, never an "S").

Great, thank you so much! :)

Key-r-awn. awn as in pawn. Roll it all together in one syllable as it common for Irish words. We don't pronounce syllables individually like americans.

reply

It is one of the oldest Irish names. Typically it is spelt with a C, but some spell it with a K.

reply

However you pronounce it he's eminently watchable. Whatever he's in he brings the quality to top shelf.

Ciaràn Hinds in interview on THE NIGHT ALIVE, 11th Jan 14

I just watched an interview with Ciaràn Hinds featured in this YouTube video; the URL addresses listed above. The interviewers pronounces his name several times. These are going to be approximate times that I noted when I heard the pronunciation of the interviewers, there are lots of variables here but these times are fairly close. LOL, I am hard of hearing, but the examples I have listed were clear enough that even I could get a pretty good idea of his name sounds like. I have not really looked through this thread, but it seems like you have some good answers from the Irish people who know.

The first time in this video interview in which (Ciaràn) is pronounced by the female interviewer at about :10 seconds…
and she says his name again at about :49 seconds...
and then a male interviewer pronounces his name (Ciaràn) at about 1:06, preceded by the actress costar' s name (Caoilfhionn Dunne) at about 1:05.

I have enjoyed watching him work his way through a wide variety of characters, of many nationalities, He seems pretty comfortable wearing both the white and black hats.

Kinda blows me away that is younger than I am. Nice work, kiddo.

Are you suggesting that I may be the Dove?
I am more of a Raven, don't you think?

reply

More colloquially it would be Key-earn, but all the others are just as acceptable.
