He had a cheek

The guy was the typical Irish pisshead yet insulted Brando. How a second rate actor like Harris can insult the best actor in history is beyond me, especially since Harris completely RIPPED OFF Brando in his performance in "This Sporting Life". I think Harris had a life long seething jealousy that Brando had starring role in The Mutiny on the Bounty and not him.

Harris had not class. Brando seldom slagged off fellow actors.

How did Harris "insult" Brando? When talking about Brando, Harris joked about his attitudes and his method acting, but he never said Brando would be a bad actor or something like that. Harris even admitted that he admired Brando as an actor, but didn't like him too much as a person.

I think Brando was a great actor, but he certainly wasn't a God. It was Harris' right to speak his mind and one of the traits a lot of people admired him for.

And when it comes to 'ripping off' Brando - Brando stood for the change in acting from the "pompous" old actors like Lord Lawrence Olivier and Sir John Gielgud to the "angry young men" and their natural acting. If you name this "ripping off" you must also accuse Peter O'Toole and Albert Finney of doing that.

lolwut?

Brando pretty much alienated the whole of Hollywood.

I love them both - as far as I'm aware, Harris just criticised him as a person for his (well-known) attitude and actions which caused the film they worked on together to go over budget and behind schedule. Since Harris is the only one of us who has met and worked with Brando, I think it's fair to say he's better-informed.

(and Harris is hardly a second-rate actor, by the way)

These bastards!

Harris said that Brando had "a remarkable facility for everything except comedy" in an interview on Parkinson. He was really pissed off because Brando was holding up production on "Mutiny on the Bounty" with his tinkering and demands. Harris was not a star at this time and was happy for the big role and the big paycheque that came with it to support his growing family. The production went massively overbudget and overschedule. I think that Harris' wife also gave birth to their second child ("Mad Men" star Jared Harris) around this time, which Harris missed because he was filming in Tahiti
