Ran over and killed a 9 year old boy in 2001
Only got 3 years of probation, one year licence suspension, $2,800 fine and 750 hours of community service.

Had no idea, looked it up and she totally messed up. Car in front of her slammed on the breaks and instead of stopping she went around the car and got the child. Terrible
shareOh god. She is married to Eric Dane. I am not sure I could stay married to someone who did something like that. That is awful if it is as you describe.
shareShe really should have done at least some time. Likely would have benefitted her as much as punished her as she would have gained perspective and learned a little humility...something most Hollywood stars seem to be missing.
Why would you want someone to do time in jail for that? We all make mistakes. Just because hers resulted in something tragic is no reason to compound the tragedy by punishing her for something unavoidable.
shareShe initially broke the law by following too closely and that resulted in the unnecessary death. That is why a crime "involuntary manslaughter" is on the books. If you or I did the exact same thing, we would be doing a little time. Actors shouldn't get special treatment.
I don't think anyone should get special treatment. My issue is with the law itself. Everyone has tailgated someone at some point. Putting someone in jail because the time they did it resulted in tragedy is misguided. People make mistakes, and our lives shouldn't be irrevocably ruined because of one.

shareEveryone has done something similar in their life, almost certainly multiple times. We've all inadvertently acted in some way that could have resulted in tragedy, and are lucky it didn't. Are you going to tell me you've never tailgated someone, or driven over the speed limit, or looked at your phone while driving, or done anything illegal ever in your life? You could easily have accidentally killed someone at any one of those moments. Would it be reasonable to throw you in jail for that?

shareRemember, if the pedestrian’s death was truly an accident, and no aggravating circumstances exist (no DUI, no extreme recklessness), then criminal charges are highly unlikely, but the driver may still face a wrongful death lawsuit.
