Did he create the first human centipede?

“I fancied myself a scientist...

I have heard that ducks cannot digest fatty pork, something in its intestinal make-up caused the bird to pass the pork with a minute or two. We had plenty of ducks in our back yard. I pondered a night over this.
It occurred to me that it would be interesting to tie a string about ten feet long to the pork. Out came the pork, which I then gave to another duck with the same result, holding onto the string that entered the first duck’s mouth. In a few minutes, I had a half dozen ducks tied together beak to rectum on this greased string”

what a repulsive, disgusting human being.

Wasn't he also a slave dealer in the south seas, before he became an actor?

Not a good person.

reply

I don't know

Good old Errol had a few duck stories he liked to share with people. I heard a little audio grab once where he announced to all and sundry that at the age of twelve he had fucked a duck. Make of that what you will...

what a psycho.

He also on one occasion tossed David Niven out of his boat a mile or two offshore and then sailed off. Leaving Niven to swim back to shore safely on his own, if he could.

reply

that is so fucked up.

reply

You said it.

reply

David Niven was a close friend and defended him after his death. So I'm guessing he didn't mind swimming a mile to shore. They were pranksters...

reply

I saw Niven on the Parkinson TV show and he certainly defended Flynn against accusations that Flynn was a Nazi sympathiser during WW2. As far as Flynn throwing Niven overboard it has to be said in Flynn's defense that Niven had successfully gone through military training for officers in England and would have been fit enough for the long swim. So long as nothing went wrong that is.

Niven also said ruefully about Flynn on the Parkinson show that you could always count on him to let you down. So I don't think that Flynn was trying to kill Niven but he was being an irresponsible idiot by doing what he did. Putting someone's life at risk is way beyond a prank in my book.

Niven also wrote about the incident in one of his autobiographies. He may have exaggerated it as he was a raconteur. I am guessing that part about Niven having to swim to shore is exaggeration.

reply

Yeah, people these days need to lighten up and stop being so sensitive. What's a forced mile swim among friends?

reply

How true are some of these stories though? The thing about Flynn is he likes to shock people, damn the truth.

reply

I am a fan, but I think Flynn was a sociopath and that's based on what his friends wrote about him.

reply

What friend and what did they say?

reply

Ducks aren't human.

He was 10 or 12 here though, so pretty young and confused. His father was a scientist and would experiment and cut open animals in front of him. He thought he was doing the same thing. When his father caught him doing that to entertain his friends, it was the first and only time his father gave him a thrashing. And it was also then that the father realized he was having an adverse effect on his son with his experiments.

I agree it's very shocking and disturbing to read though. His autobiography is one of the best I've read.
