She doesn't want to have a baby because...

She could never be the good mother that her mother Sally was to her.

Her mother Sally raised Lara all own her own as a single parent and had to work 3 different jobs to do so and she formed a strong bond with Lara. Lara has no brothers or sisters and pretty much lived her entire life with her mother (until recently).

Doesn't anyone think it's a bit selfish that because she couldn't be a mother as good as her own, that she doesn't want to have children and keep her families 'Boyle' name/legacy alive? I mean her own mother can help her raise her children - it seems like an almost perfect setup.

That's my 2 cents.

It's far less selfish for Lara to choose not to have children than it is for those people who have children that they do not care properly for.

Besides, why is it not okay to live for yourself? Why is there such an expectation that all women should have babies?

If she doesn't want kids, that's fine, all she needs to do is say "I don't want children", not "I don't want children because I could never be as good as mother a my mother was..."

Given her status and money, I don't think that it would be a problem for her to look after kids properly anyway - she wouldn't be short a penny to hire a nanny or babysitter. She said her mother worked 3 jobs to raise her properly, yet Lara won't need to do such things in order for her baby to be raised just as well, if not better.

Just because you can afford something doesn't mean you should.

I'm not saying that. What I'm saying is her reason to not having a child seems like more of an excuse not to have one as opposed to a valid reason. Everytime I see LFB she immediately reminds me of her role on Babys Day Out.

It's none of your business what her reasons are, or whether she's giving an excuse. Why do you even care?

Oh and hiring nannies, etc to care for children is not the same as being a good mother. The two aren't mutually exclusive of course but she clearly wants to play a huge role in her child's life and doesn't feel as though she can live up to that. Hey, she's making a mature decision. Good for her.

There's nothing wrong with knowing that you don't want to have children, no matter the personal reason. It's not for everybody. It's kind of crazy for you to call her selfish for not wanting to have kids.

reply

Why would she need an 'excuse'??!

She gets to do what she thinks is best for her, rather than having a child she doesn't think she would be a good enough parent to... End of story.

She never said not good enough, she said not as good as her own mother.
