This is casting news we certainly weren't expecting to hear.

British actor Joseph Fiennes will portray Michael Jackson in an upcoming film based on an alleged road trip following the 2001 terrorist attacks in New York, the Guardian reports.

The drama is based on a 2011 story in Vanity Fair, which revealed details of the expedition after all air travel to and from New York was grounded as a result of 9/11.

Well this will set off a fuse for sure.

And? What's your point? You'd rather have an African American do white face? The Wayans brothers tried it and it was atrocious.

Michael Jackson was pale white and had already had multiple surgeries on his nose and face.

The only choice was a light skinned aka Caucasian actor.

Joseph is an extremely intelligent and talented actor. I doubt he would accept this role if there wasn't something about it that was attractiving.

Oh and the Jackson family signed off and approved this casting and project FYI

What a silly controversy. Michael Jackson was white by 2001, nothing more natural than casting a white guy to play a white guy.

Perhaps my humour has led you to believe otherwise. I'm noting that I can see this will set off a problem to the mainstream (which the article alludes to granted the reason to indicate "a white actor"), not that I personally object to it.

I agree.
The only black person that's remind me the 2000's MJ is his sister.

i think his point was that it'd cause a stir, like he said. also, you thought the portrayals in White Chicks were meant to be taken seriously? ok....

Plot hole - Aspect of a film that is misunderstood or missed while using your smart phone.

reply

Who gives a damn what his family did.
Before his death, Jackson himself has explicitly stated on Oprah that he would not want a white actor to portray him because he was a black American.

Even outside of the race issue, this is a dumb and disrespectful choice.

reply

but it's just as possible to make-up an african-american and pull it off. not that i'd choose one over the other, just saying.
