First of all Sean Penn is an Academy Award winning actor because of his acting ability. Patrick Dempsey is only on Gey's Anatomy because he looks good, NOW. Dempsey doesn't even compare to Sean Penn. Besides, between the 2 only Dempsey would be offered crap like those 2 movies. Sean Penn gets offered great roles, Dempsey gets offered roles that bad actors get.

I completely agree nekosan...I personally hate the argument that someone is a better or lesser actor because of winning an Oscar. It's an award, voted on by people. It's also not looking at everything they've ever done, it's looking on one performance, that's all.

As Patrick himself has said...acting awards are all subjective, they're about what a certain group of people like. (its why he rather racing...you either win or you lose).

Sean Penn is an extremely talented actor but he's also an entirely different kind of actor than PD. Of course they're not going to be offered the same kind of roles and that has nothing to do with talent and everything to do with what kind of actors they are. Not all actors can be cut from the same cloth.

For anyone who doesn't think PD is talented...I suggest watching him on Once and Again...he was nominated for an Emmy for that one so you can even have the award approval some people are looking for.

Penn is a multifaceted actor and could certainly do the role Patrick did in Valentine's Day if he wanted to. I don't think Penn would have wanted to do it because it doesn't seem to be his type of film to do.
