jessica lange as joan in 'feud'.. ?????

Now Jessica Lange, 67, and Susan Sarandon, 69, are set to play iconic actresses from Hollywood's Golden Age, Joan Crawford and Bette Davis, in Ryan Murphy's new anthology TV series, Feud.

i love the casting of sarandon as davis.. uncanny and as perfect a resemblance as i have ever seen..

however, while i adore lange, i was shocked to see how poorly she has aged, especially as she was a stunning beauty at the start of her career.. she really looks years older than the amazingly well preserved susan sarandon, who is in fact older.. so at first i had my doubts about miss lange in the role of joan.. but after seeing several publicity shots of the two stars, i actually think lange can pull it off believably enough with the proper makeup job.. the recreations of the iconic publicity shots for the orignal 'wehtbj?' -the one with both stars in front of the antique car and the epic shot with both stars looking out of the window of blanche's room- are quite well done..

more specifically, i was extremely relieved to see that the 'window' shot recreation shows lange incarnating joan in uncanny resemblance, especially the lips and those bushy eyebrows that became one of joan's facial trademarks in the 1960s.. considering how caricatured the 'crawford look' seemed in mommie dearest, this came as a wonderful breath of fresh air..

by contrast, sarandon's most authentic davis look comes in the shot where they're both posing in front of the antique car.. sarandon visually becomes davis in a way that is simply stunning in its authenticity.. simply stunning!

truly looking forward to this miniseries..

Are you talking about the window shot that is within the link you provided? If so, that's not a recreation, that is the real deal. I haven't seen any publicity shots of Sarandon and Lange as Davis and Crawford yet.

Sweet merciful crap!

It's just tea! *sips* Needs more gin.

no, that's not the shot i was referring to.. i need to find it on the web and try to post it.. the 'window' shot i'm talking about is the one where blanche is grabbing the window bars in anguish while jane stands behind her.. that's one of the publicity shots lange and sarandon have recreated and the one where lange's crawford makeup is most believable.. i'm gonna try to search the web for it right now and post it..

here's another publicity shot for 'feud' showing another glimpse of lange's 'crawford look'.. and while it is not as dead on as sarandon's 'davis look,' it is still pretty darn remarkable:

at least they're getting the visual details right.. lange may not be as classically beautiful as joan was, even at this stage of her career, but i fully trust lange's acting chops will more than make up for any gaps in the visual illusion..

Would anybody have preferred Judy Davis as Crawford?

I'd vote DALLAS' Linda Gray, but she's not seen as "big" enough.

You're right - she'd be ideal.
Judy Davis is probably too "typed" as Judy Garland.
