Seriously, was she involved in the Kennedy assassination?

As legend has it, a Dallas newspaper reported on the morning of the assassination that Nixon and Crawford, both on the board of Pepsi and in town supposedly for a bottlers' convention, had taunted Kennedy about his use of the protective bubble top, and that that public taunting might have played a role in JFK having it removed from the limousine when he drove thru Dallas that day.

Crawford and Nixon were indeed in Dallas the previous evening, some reported seeing them together at comic Robert Clary's show at a Dallas hotel, while others (like LBJ's mistress) saw Nixon at a party that same evening where Lyndon Johnson showed up at the last minute and told his mistress that Kennedy wouldn't be a problem after tomorrow.

The video of LBJ's mistress discussing the party is here:

Some people have tried to dispute that the Assassination Eve party ever happened or that Nixon was there, but servants verified it, and even Helen Thomas (with the Dallas press at the time, and future famed White House reporter) who was in attendance signed an afadavit which essentially confirms the story.

I've never heard, though, whether Crawford was at the party.

Crawford with President Kennedy that previous spring:

Interestingly, an invitation had been extended to both Joan Crawford and Richard Nixon from White House staff members to attend the scheduled luncheon speech that President Kennedy was to deliver at the Dallas Trade Mart. Without being overtly partisan, Crawford told a reporter, “No, I don’t think either of us will attend the luncheon here for President Kennedy,” she smiled.

But Pepsi had issues with Kennedy.

14 years later, when Crawford herself expired, only two framed portraits were found in her apartment: one of buddy Barbara Stanwyck and one of President Kennedy whom she'd known for years.

Reminiscence? Or hunting trophy?
