It doesn't seem her filmography is very good

Her acting, superb, but as movies, I guess only Mildred Pierce is truly perfect, and of course Baby Jane.

Well I've seen Grand Hotel, Letty Lynton, Mildred Pierce, Humoresque, Autumn Leaves, Sudden Fear, What Ever Happened To Baby Jane?, Berserk. I think I'm missing one more. Her acting is superb but the films itself are way less enjoyable than Bette Davis' filmography for example.

I should see it but it looks rather unglamorous.

She got stuck doing a lot of formula pictures during the 1930s studio system and didn't have a lot of say over what they put her in. Joan had range but she was often typecast for certain rags to riches roles or tough-talking dames. She wasn't pleased about the roles she was receiving and told Metro her fans deserved better films from her. Of course nothing changed and she left Metro for Warner and won an Oscar in her first role for them (Mildred Pierce). So she was vindicated. But by the time she was at Warner, unfortunately she was past her Hollywood prime and in the dreaded late 30s to 40s age range so her glory days at her new studio were limited. Eventually she reinvented herself as a B movie actress once the old studio system went up in flames in the 1960s.

She was a great actress who made a lot of very good pictures, but among them only "Mildred Pierce" is still well-known. "Baby Jane" is silly nonsense, and she was wasted in it. Unfortunately, it made her an icon of camp to a certain audience, and between that, her daughter's horrid book, and Faye Dunaway's ridiculous impersonation, that's the cartoonish way she's remembered today by most people.
