Hollywood reverse racism?

I noticed Bill Cosby movies are still all available to view and purchase on digital platforms. These are movies he stars in, and we see his face constantly. In contrast, many Harvey Weinstein movies are unavailable or difficult to purchase, and he was just a producer in them, having never shown his face on screen. I have a hard time seeing the difference between the two, other than one is a white guy.

Maybe the films suck. Maybe that's why.

Weinstein movies certainly made more money and received higher critical acclaim than Fat Albert or Ghost Dad, so that doesn't make sense. Any other ideas?

reply

Could be because something is tied up legally involving the films. Maybe Cosby no longer profits from his old holdings so it's less taboo to have them on the market. Why not write to the media companies and find out? It's an interesting question but I doubt anyone here knows the truth about it.

But since we're at it, what is a couple of the films you noticed this about?

I never considered it being a legal situation, because a lot of his movies never were unavailable, but maybe. I can't buy Dogma anywhere. Vudu seems to be worse than google play, because room 1408 and Death proof aren't on vudu, but are on GP, and Deathproof and 1408 just came back to GP (I wonder if they let things settle down, because these weren't on there a few months ago). I have no doubt eventually that they will all come back, because these big companies value the dollar above all, but there definitely seems to be a choice to keep his movies suppressed. I don't personally agree with that for any movie, even Cosby's, because a lot of people are involved in movies besides just one person. Mostly, I want to own Dogma, lol.

Yeah, I hate to think of those who'd suffer because of a single jackass like that. I think as long as the criminal is removed from the profits that people wouldn't mind the works being out for the public to buy/rent.

That's odd, because it seems like someone would have made the effort to remove it, and it seems unlikely the Weinstein would, but if I read that right he owns it. The Blu-ray is stupid expensive, so it stands to reason people want this.
