Christie + Beatty

My late father worked on a handful of Beatty film sets from the Bonnie & Clyde era well into the late eighties; and my father always had warm stories to share about working with Warren, up until his death from ALS about eight years ago. My dad especially spoke well of Beatty's longtime love, Julie Christie. He described her as incredibly warm and gracious and quite the chef, as she would spoil Beatty and the cast and crew of his films with delicious homemade meals. Anyway, he told me that Ms. Christie had suffered a miscarriage in London while Beatty was filming Dollars with Goldie Hawn in Germany (a film my father worked on) and that this hit Warren especially hard and sent him into a depression that made the remainder of the shoot quite heavy for everyone involved, and that the experience completely spooked Beatty away from fatherhood. I recall a story where Warren got the cast and crew to surprise Julie with a new puppy when she visited the set a few weeks later. Not trying to stir up any gossip, but does anyone recall this story being made public? I had always been so fascinated by the Beatty/Christie stories my father would recount, and often wondered why these two broke up? They seemed like such a warm, loving couple and that Ms. Christie was indeed "the one that got away" in Warren's mind. Anyone here know any details of their breakup? It is difficult to find many details about their relationship these days... just curious. Thanks!
