Not only a great actress, but a very smart woman

Julie Christie is not only, one of the best actresses of our time, but more importantly, a very smart woman. It's sad to learn that she isn't getting enough roles as she was getting in the 1960's and 1970's. I supposed for one reason is that Hollywood, as she puts it, doesn't really give a damn about her. And I don't blame her for that statement. She's too smart to stay away from all of the Hollywood B.S. and celebrity gossip. She's really is a beautiful, striking, enchanting presence on the big screen when it comes to movies like Darling, Don't Look Now, Shampoo, Far From the Madding Crowd and many more.

You are right on the money in this post. A really smart woman, and a very humble one. I believe that the reason she isn't getting enough roles has more to do with her selectivity and her lack of desire to be in front of a camera. Even in her heyday she would often go years without making a movie, although when she did, it was nearly always a classic that still holds up today. I'm thinking specifically of McCabe and Mrs.Miller, Don't Look Now, Shampoo. Even Petulia, which is somewhat dated (its San Francisco 60s setting), still has important things to say about social mores and love in a time of alienation. A great actress indeed, a beautiful woman whose beauty is enhanced by her intelligence, sensitivity and a wonderful sense of humor about herself. Check out a rare interview she did back in 1988 on Youtube, in which she pokes fun at herself as a child. You'll fall in love with her all over again.
