I Like Her

In all honesty, I've only seen her in five projects. Doctor Zhivago, McCabe & Mrs. Miller, Shampoo, Heaven Can Wait and Demon Seed. I remember her as a pop icon of the '60's. A kind of intellectual version of Rachael Welch, who's stunning beauty got her attention from all quarters of society. But after all her projects it's interesting to note that she's only worth $10 million dollars - in a world where actresses like Kristen Stewart have earned over $70 million.

I look forward to viewing some of her other film projects in the future.

Check out Don't Look Now, a classic psychological horror film in which she plays a bereaved mother dealing with ESP, set in a wintry Venice, The Go Between a period piece set on an English country estate with an amazing script by Harold Pinter. Shampoo is an underrated classic, that most people thought was just a frothy, raunchy sex comedy when it first came out. Petulia, from 1968, though dated (San Francisco at the height of the hippie movement)is a profound look at failed relationships and the inability to connect. Also Fahrenheit 451, playing a dual role. More recently, I would recommend Afterglow (not a great film, but maybe her best performance ever), Away From Her, in which she crushes it as an Alzheimer patient. Also, don't overlook Heat and Dust, set in India where she was born. Her net worth is probably due to her avoidance of commercial projects in favor of art films. Julie never had a Twilight series on her resume. As for future film projects, I'm not holding my breath. I think she's done with films, though I hope I'm wrong. Oh, yeah, don't overlook Darling (her Oscar performance and a real dazzler) and Far From the Madding Crowd, which paired her with three great leading men. Happy Viewing!!
