What actor / actress is due for a comeback?
Singer and actress Irene Cara. She was ubiquitous in the late 70s and early 80s, and is still greatly remembered for her roles in "Sparkle" and "Fame." After she sued her record label for unpaid royalties on her music, she became a persona non grata in the entertainment business. She must be near 60 now, but I would love to see her in shows and movies again. She should talk to Tyler Perry or Oprah Winfrey, and see if she can participate in some of their vehicles. She can sing in them, too, encouraging a resurrection of her music career.

I submit that if Irene Cara were starting out now--the post Halle Berry-age of EMPIRE, Kerry Washington, Beyonce, Rihanna, etc--she could be (and should have been) a huge star in movies, TV, and music.
Enormously attractive, talented, charming, likable. But nowhere to go.
It's similar to Diana Ross' film career: she was quite compelling in LADY SINGS THE BLUES, MAHOGANY (a huge guilty pleasure), and even if miscast in THE WIZ, a great onscreen presence. But again, nowhere for her to go in cinema. No one was developing great films (let alone TV) for AA leading ladies in the late 70s and 80s. They were barely looking at the ladies at all.
And while I'm not Halle Berry's biggest fan, she does not get enough credit. History will recognize her as a multi-cultural trailblazer, akin to Dorothy Dandridge and Eartha Kitt. Mark my words.
