I wish he was still around. We need his kind of comedies today since there is no one today that is even close to his genius.

Me to,watched planes,trains and automobiles a few months back made me realise what a great actor he was.

He'd likely end up cancelled if he were around today. Dude may have made a wise decision, by choosing to leave the planet when things were still relatively chill

I love John Candy. I miss him so much. Love his comedies. I've been watching a bunch the last month or so, and still not finished.

He was the first celebrity death I was genuinely upset about.

Most of the big celebs who had died when I was a kid had long been in retirement or were making more 'grown-up' films and shows (so they didn't yet mean that much to me, and it was only as I got older that I started to appreciate their work), but by 1994, I was already a fan of Candy, on account of Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Uncle Buck, Home Alone and Spaceballs, so it was a real blow when I heard the news.
