I feel like he studied Kevin Spacey or something for his role on The Killing. Similar mannerisms etc. Not sure why... anyone else?

There was a scene early on--I think where he announces to his campaign staff that the labor woman is endorsing him--where he kind of twists his head in a way that looks exactly like Spacey. I didn't see it at all before that.

yeah I noticed that too! I know it has no significance but glad someone else saw it as well : )
