William + William

I was wondering if there was some record of Billy's changing first name. Originally, I think he went by William---which has been taken, since the 50's by William Campbell, who passed 2 days ago, a veteran of the original Star Trek & DS9, playing Squire Trelane & Klingon Captain Koloth, from 'The Trouble with Tribbles'.
At some point, Billy, also a Star Trek vet, started using Bill, Billy or William O. Campbell.
I'm guessing that, @ some point, Billy will start using 'William' again.
