Growing respect for Josh Brolin

I first saw him in Hollow Man, and I thought he was an inconsequential, lightweight actor soon to disappear from movies, but changed my mind after "No Country For Old Men." Perhaps it's maturity or he's developed a different screen persona, but I'm impressed with his later movies.

Agreed, but from what I've heard Gangster Squad probably isn't going to add much to his legacy.

Ah I enjoyed Gangster Squad. It was what it was, a fun, entertaining, stereotypical, gangster noir style movie. Just take it as that and nothing else, it wasn't trying to be an Oscar winner. I think all the actors in that movie did well, Sean Penn was particularly good.

But yeah OP, I agree. Ever since No Country I've been a big Josh Brolin fan. He was great in American Gangster too. I hated his character so much, very good performance. Looking forward to his future movies!

From what you've heard? Meaning you haven't seen the movie?

You should probably see it for yourself before making any comment.

Looks like I'm gonna miss it, Big Evil. Regarding your comment on my comment, "From what I've heard" should be enough of a qualifier but I'll qualify it further -- just for you!!! Here we go: "If what I have heard about this film is true -- and heaaven knows it may not be true at all =- this film will probably not add anything, or at least not much, to JB's legacy. However, it may be the best mob movie ever made and if that is indeed the case it will certainly add ***very much*** to the already-formidible reputation of this most estimable actor."

Saw him before Hollow man and not The Goonies?

reply

I didn't even know who he was when he did Hollow Man and actually hated him cause he was with Kevin Bacon's girl in the movie.
He got my attention in 'Country' and blew my mind in 'W.' What a performance!

Totally agree with you, at first I thought another Hollywood kid with big ambitions think Charlie Sheen or Michael Douglas (who have done well), then you have Melanie Griffith... need I say more....!

But Josh Brolin is slowly building a respectable career as an actor not a star;; but an actor!

From the Mod Squad, Milk (so..so) to Jonah Hex(laughable) to M.I.B 3 (LIKEABLE/endearing)to W.(ANNOYING)to Gangster Squad (impressive entertainment)

I have to say he does his name proud. I do respect his work esp the more recent roles. I believe he would make a credible Batman or Hawkman.

I look forward to seeing him get better with time.

dont know who youve been listening too but i thought Gangster Squad was a damn fine action movie. i was put off for a while but after seeing oldboy i gave it a go and thoroughly enjoyed it. he was the best thing in No country for old men and was excellant in Oldboy. a lot of people are saying he should have been the new batman and im becoming inclined to agree.
