Best actress today

I think Cate is not one of the best actors today, but she is the best of any working now, including Streep. Meryl had her day and now Cate owns it, without question. There is nothing this woman cannot do. Stage, film, docs, etc. she shines in everything. Like the announcer at Cannes F.F. asked, "How can you not fall in love with Cate Blanchett"? Exactly. This lady is funny, intelligent, articulate, talented beyond anyone human, a goddess of many who dream, self-deprecating (making her all the more desirable), sexy as hell and a fashionista on top of all that. I have more adjectives to describe this incredible human being, but I'll save them after I assess her humanitarian efforts which she seems to be involved in her "spare time". My god, when does this woman sleep?
Anyway, can you tell I adore this lady? Hell yes, she deserves every accolade out there. All the rest of the actresses can go home.
Peace, vote blue all the way through!

Cate has proven through the years (but I don't think of her as old, as she does at times, lol), that the myriad personalities she reveals to us are just the tip of the iceberg that constitutes the entirety of this most complicated, interesting, intelligent human that few probably are allowed to begin to understand. That's a good thing, though. What she has also shown is she can be funny, shy, a fashionista, as you say, articulate, and many other layers beneath. These things are not mutually exclusive and this woman embodies just that.

I agree with everything. Cate is defiantly very talented actress. She is so lovely.

the best eva

She is talented and versatile as an actress. Cate is so layered.

Yes, Cate is wonderful; but not the best as long as Jodi Foster is working.

And then there’s the Commingwoman, Saiorse Ronan.

Cate’s good, but not the best and future best.

PS Streep has always been too studied and mechanical for me. You can see the gears and levers working inside her when are acts. I expect a machine to be organic and visceral, not moribund. When you press on the gas peddle of a Ferrari, you hear the roar of a jungle cat and feel the pure sex of its essence; just like the performances of Foster and Ronan. You don’t hear and feel the clickity-clack of Streep. Blanchett is better than Streep, but no Ferrari; more like a Mustang when compared to her betters.

I'd say yes for sure, definitely top 3 no argument.

Since 1997, she's been knocking out great work. She was fantastic in Paradise Road (1997), Oscar and Lucinda (1997), Elizabeth (1998), The Ideal Husband (1999), The Talented Mr Ripley (1999), Charlotte Gray (2001), Heaven (2002), Veronica Guerin (2003), Coffee and Cigarettes (2003), The Missing (2003), The Aviator (2004), Little Fish (2005), Babel (2006), Notes on A Scandal (2006), I'm Not There (2007), Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007), Blue Jasmine (2013), Carol (2015), Thor: Ragnarok (2017).

Those are the films I think she's at the top of her game in imo. Her C.V doesn't have that many duds in them if at all.

I didn't fully warm up to Blanchett until Blue Jasmine - with her magnificent performance there and equally brilliant work in Carol she finally convinced me of what others had seen for years. The best working actress? Nope, I'd give that to Isabelle Huppert, with several other close contenders. But Cate is certainly in the upper echelons.

Thing is Blanchett is also past her prime and already had her day as well, Florence Pugh is the future and the best actress today.

reply

Past her prime? She has done her career-best work to date in the last decade or so and is barely in mid-career. She very likely has many great years ahead of her.

Pugh is excellent in Lady Macbeth and clearly a face to watch but it's a little early to call her the best actress today.
