A one movie fluke

although not a bad movie

I liked him when he worked with Jim Jarmusch but found his clownish behaviour when he was centre of attention insufferable.

I think perhaps he became ambitious beyond his skill level... his Pinocchio adaptation was probably doomed from the moment of conception.

I never thought Life is Beautiful was very good.

In the US maybe.

The only thing I remember from him (and yes, I live in the US) was his oscar acceptance speech. Crawling on people's chairs to get to his award.

Never wanted to watch Life Is Beautiful. It's a part of history that belongs in somber documentaries and I cannot watch any drama, let alone a comedy of some kind, based on these events.
So the only thing I know about this guy is that in an episode of The West Wing CJ tells how he once pushed her in a pool whilst wearing a designer dress - so I dislike him for that reason alone.

More of a masterstroke of marketing rather than a fluke of a hit film.
