There have been far, far worse throughout Hollywood's history. This "worse director ever" nonsense has to stop, because Bay at least knows how to competently make a movie (even if you don't like the film, they're still well-done).

The sad thing about a lot of Michael Bay detractors is that they don't know what truly bad filmmaking is. Bad filmmaking is not making the Ninja Turtles aliens, putting flames on Optimus Prime, having supermodels pose under an orange tinted sky, having a lot of explosions, cutting fast, having scientific inaccuracies in a completely fictional story, or having absurdity in absurd action films. Truly bad filmmaking is having poor cinematography, badly lit scenery, poor direction of actors and extras, terrible production values, incompetent use of camera shots in telling a story, and the inability to have the entire film in your head so you don't keep the momentum up and have consistency. Whereas Bay is not a perfect director and may never make a film as great as The Godfather or The 400 Blows, he doesn't represent any of the above. His movies do have well lit scenery, good cinematography, and he does know how to use his camera shots to tell a story and evoke emotion. His movies may not be brain food, but he's by no means an idiot and he clearly does know a thing or two about movies and the making of them, after all he did study under Jeanine Basinger( Who also taught Joss Whedon and Alexander Payne), you don't take classes under Jeanine Basinger and learn nothing.

I have an unbelievably long ignore list.

Thank you for that! Read the above and learn, detractors.

I wouldn't say he's bad director also his movies aren't well done, but still his movies are not bad at all and are fun to watch, if you want to relax and watch lot's of action/comedy/adventure all in 1, choose any Bay's movie and enjoy.

I wholeheartedly agree. I'm neither a fan or non-fan. I've only seen four of Bay's movies -- Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, The Island and Transformers (the first one) -- and they show that he's definitely a skilled filmmaker who knows how to make a flashy, compelling movie that sells tickets. Pearl Harbor is one of my favorite movies and I honestly don't get the loathing it generally receives (he basically did the same thing with the topic of Pearl Harbor that Cameron did with the Titanic story, but -- mysteriously -- the latter movie is universally praised while the former is hated; go figure). Armageddon is thrilling sci-fi and The Island is quite good. Transformers is a fun blockbuster, but I can take it or leave it simply because The Transformers (the comics & concept) never tripped my trigger, but who can deny that franchise's popularity?

People who slander him as the "worst director ever" are simply envious of his skills and success. They're also blatant liars because everyone knows he's a talented filmmaker, even if you don't particularly like his style or the projects he picks. To say he's the "worst director ever" is not only dishonest, it's absurd.

Now if someone were to say "Ed Wood is the worst director ever" it has some legitimacy because Wood's so-bad-they're-not-funny "movies" support the claim.
