His fanbase is evaporating

He was once probably the most exciting young American filmmaker post-Quentin Tarantino, and now nobody gives a damn about his movies. He thought he was being a true artist with TWBB thru Inherent Vice, but he instead embraced inconsequence and pretension as his guiding cinematic idols. Hopefully he bounces back.

It's a damn shame his films struggle to break even. He's easily one of the best working directors, out there right now, and what he makes is quite a cut above the rest IMO. If I'm correct, The Master and Inherent Vice were both privately financed by the same person. Seems odd since There Will be Blood was his highest grossing film. The Master was dropped by Universal studios initially, according to wikipedia.

Guess the stuff he makes doesn't have much of an audience :/

reply

financed privately? by whom?

reply

I'm nobody, I'm his fan.

IDK, his three best movies are TWBB, Phantom Thread, and The Master for me, so I think he's on a winning streak right now.

reply

And a lot of people would agree.

OP must be trolling.

reply

I agree. Boogie Nights was good on such a base level.

A sexy, funny melodrama. Literally all he had to do was keep making movies like this. Instead he went down a rabbit hole of pretentiousness. Still a decent filmmaker in an ocean of terrible shit, but one will always wonder what could have been of his career

What a load of gibberish.

He's still the best director in cinema today, so don't speak for everyone. There Will Be Blood is one of the greatest works of film you are likely to see. Crazy thing he's still got a lot more films that would be any other director masterwork. Punch Drunk Love one of the most original love stories, The Master and Inherent Vice fantastic pieces of work, Phantom Thread, a old school but still fresh film. Boogie Nights and Magnolia two of the best films of the 90's. Yeah he's sure losing that fanbase of his. no one wants to work for him and his critical stock has hit a such a low that Yealis must be right lol.

reply

Lol. TWBB was hugely successful.

I drink your milkshake, OP.
