I believe 75% (if not 90%?) of lawsuits end in an out-of-court settlement. Lawsuits can go on for years (eating up someone's life), are very expensive, and there's no assurance which way a judgement will go.

A settlement allows both parties to get on with their lives, have grievances addressed, and hopefully walk away with some dignity.
