Why isn't Kareem Abdul-Jabaar regarded as the greatest NBA player ever?

He is def 1 of the greatest ever, it's just hard to say definitively that he's "the greatest ever." There are about 5-10 players who are all really close to that title.

I'm with you on this. He's way up the list, but how does one really select one "greatest" player? Marketing and hype may steer the masses towards one or two players, but in reality... is it that easy? Jabbar was phenomenal. So were others. If I had to put together a starting 5 and was "forced" to take him as my center, I'd not feel cheated.

He was damn good.

Still the GOAT, if you look at his whole career (high school, college, pros).

6 time NBA champion (like Jordan)
6 time NBA MVP (2 time Finals MVP)
19 time NBA All Star (15 times All-NBA)
11 times All-Defensive team
Rookie of the Year
2 NBA scoring titles, 1 rebounding title, 4 blocks titles
3 time national college player of the year (3 time All American)
3 time Final Four MVP (3 national championships, with a 47 game winning streak in college)
3 consecutive NY City high school championships (with a 71 game winning streak)
NY City high school scoring record
2 high school national championships (2nd place the other year)

He was really great. He's not regarded as the greatest player because that honor belongs to the one and only Michael Jordan, but Kareem was definitely great. I think part of it is that Kareem was strictly a center and didn't have to worry about ball handling/bringing the ball up the court. But what a player he was...his sky hook was such an iconic shot!
