When was the last time she made a good movie?

"Election"?

Wild

meh,

reply

She was amazing in 'Walk the Line'
Yeah...maybe it has been a while...

reply

"Wild" was pretty good. And man, she was charming as hell as June Carter in "Walk The Line"!

reply

I'm kinda on board with people here and have to say "Walk the Line" (2005) was probably the last well-known movie she starred in.

I can't speculate as to whether "Wild" (2014) was any good since I've never seen it. As a matter of fact, I didn't even know it existed.

Another one I cannot comment on is the TV series "Big Little Lies" (2017 - Present). But, since we're talking about movies, then I suppose we're not including any shows.

reply

She and Will Smith have the worst taste in movies. I like both of them but can't stand the projects they choose.

reply

She was the vision of perfect beauty in Walk...great film by the way
And she has matured perfectly
A real top 10 all time beauty

reply

I won't deny her talent and beauty. I will argue she wastes her time with projects that are beneath her.

reply

You make a good point
She should be way 'bigger' than she is...
Maybe women stars aren't getting good scripts because its all Marvel, Star Wars and sequals being made now?
Im just guessing...im possobly wrong
Its weird how some quality people are not superstars though

reply

She would be more of a superstar if she embraced the kind of edgy fare she did back in the '90s -- like "Freeway" and "Election." That's the Reese Witherspoon I'll pay money to see.

reply

*sorry ...edited because i typed stupidly😔

Yes
Election is a good example of her better stuff
They seem to not be green lighting those quirky sort of scripts though

reply

She’s a mom now, and probably chooses projects based on how well they pay, and their proximity to the LA area.

reply

Freeway is my favourite movie of hers.

reply

SHE WOULD BE A SUPERSTAR HAD SHE STUCK TO EDGY INDIE FLICKS WITH NICHE AUDIENCES?🤔

reply

Thanks for including the years of the films. Helps a lot with perspective (Election being an early break-out role while Walk The Line should be the work of a mature young woman).

Oddly enough, I enjoyed Water For Elephants (2011). Not a big Pattinson fan, but this was a sweet movie and as always, Reese shines. Have to admit I have a thing for Ms Witherspoon. Just saw her on a TV commercial and she looks fantastic. Haven't figured out how "young" she is yet. Don't know what she was hawking, but she had bright red lipstick and a big glass of red wine, so it might have been Target.

reply

For me If you are going with Election been her last great film, let's start from there so.

American Psycho (2001)
Walk The Line (2005) (I question her Oscar win but she's good in it)
Mud (2012)
Wild (2014)
Inherent Vice (2014)

Before Election

Freeway (1996)
Fear (1996) guilty pleasure of mine
Pleasantville (1998)

Throw in Big Little Lies too. She's definitely very hit and miss for me as a actress, some of the films I mentioned she's not even the lead in most of them. I definitely think Election is her best role. But she's been in great films since imo.

I thought Hot Pursuit had some funny parts, but I guess it's not really a good movie. I would say Mud as I didn't really enjoy Wild that much from what I remember. However, I haven't seen any of the films she has done in the last couple of years.

Water For Elephants (2011) and Mud (2012).
