She hasn't had a bad career

Debra was known to be a pain in the backside to work with, look at how Richard Gere and Shirley Maclaine despised to be around her, although those two aren't the easiest to get along with. Also threw a strop cause Madonna was cast in A league of Their Own, which Geena Davis took her role after she dropped out

Also she turned down some fantastic roles, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Broadcast News (Hunter got Oscar nomination for it), Fatal Attraction (Close got a Oscar Nod, the film was the biggest film that year), A League of their Own and Music Box.

But Debra was a talent, unlike say Sean Young who didn't have the talent to back up her Diva behavior. For a time she was one of the best actresses around. She could have had a better one but Look at her C.V

Urban Cowboy (1980),Cannery Row (1982),An Officer And a Gentleman (1982),Terms of Endearment (1983),Black Widow (1987),Betrayed (1988), the Sheltering Sky (1990), Shadowlands (1993).

She had a bit of a comeback recently with Rachel Getting Married (2008), TV show In Treatment, and The Lovers which was critically acclaimed especially her performance. She's doing a lot of TV recently which is a good sign. So that's not a bad career at all really.

Given the choice between Winger and Geena Davis in League, I'd take Davis although she's not any better an actress than Winger and likely not as good.

Strange that in both Urban Cowboy and An Officer and a Gentleman, I thought the protagonists would have been better off with neither of Winger's characters!

I think her character in AOAAG, definitely deserved to get with Gere, I thought she was the heart of that film. I agree with Urban Cowboy though, she seemed to jump into Scott Glenn's character's arms without a second thought.
