Would She Be Considered The Greatest Actress Of All Time If...

...she accepted even half of the roles she turned down?

She is in 3 of my top 50 movies. Imho, she's the closet thing to being the female counterpart to Jack Nicolson. Very charismatic, skillful at delivering roles that don't scream "oscar", and bring their fabulous selves to every role---but we love them just the same.

I'm inclined to agree with EllenSue. She is one of my favorites, and her two films, "Black Widow" and "Betrayed" are among my favorite of films.

When will you ever learn, this feeling is all you can discern?

Most major actors turn down half the roles offered as they get almost first choice
of the top roles.

Just ask George Clooney or Brad Pitt!

Its that man again!!

reply

Probably not. As far as I know, her personality is not desirable enough and she has burnt a lot of bridges in the film industry.

I recently watched "Urban Cowboy", Debra Winger completely steals the show in that role. Travolta was great, and fun to watch, but there is something incredibly charismatic and real about Debra. You cannot NOT watch her.

If you search on You Tube there is an interview posted there she did for Texas Monthly, it's fascinating, she is hilarious, forthright, and brilliant. There are also a couple of interviews she did years ago with David Letterman, also funny and enjoyable to watch.

I look forward to seeing more of her work, now that she's reconnecting with acting again. The very best actors are usually uniquely complex and march to their own drummers. Winger definitely embodies that, and I love that she doesn't give a flip about what anyone else thinks. She's amazing!!

I cried when I watched Shadowlands, because Debra was almost forty, and I knew that Hollywood would be taking her off the leading ladies list. I cried when I watched "La Vie En Rose," because Marion Cotillard was French and 35, and I would she would be making great films for many years.

I love Debra Winger. She was brilliant in "Rachel Getting Married," but "Everybody Wins" is my favorite.

She is a very good actress with a couple of iconic film roles, but she hardly merits a GOAT thread. I would reserve those discussions for Davis, Hepburn, Streep.
