I LOVE his deeply rasping voice, and would do ANYTHING to sound like that. Too bad there's not a surgery I can get, or I would, in a second. Guess I'll have to start smoking and drinking every day instead.

Someone told me that his voice is actually the consequence of long term smoking. Is there any truth to that?
From the candid shots I've seen of him and in interviews, he does appear to be a heavy smoker... so there may be some truth to this being partly responsible for his voice. If you watch his very early stuff (Wild Horse Hank and An American Christmas Carol- both on youtube), Michael's voice is almost unrecognizable from what it is now...
and YES, Michael has the BEST voice ever!

I'm sorry, I don't mean to be a traitor, but I agree with James Earl Jones being the best. I love Morgan Freeman and he does have a great voice but James Earl Jones has the best voice I have ever heard. There are several great voices not too far behind him, including Sam Elliot. Having spent years in radio as a disc jockey, voices are something I really tune in to and James Earl Jones' voice caught my attention even before I was a dj.
