sharewow, where the hell did you come from?...I need a plain answer...not like this...
shareWhy? Because enough of the voters back then recognized a great performance.
And if you don't get it, you're a moron.
(I'm sick of this - People should get over it after all these years.)
You are so right tma68!
so bored of these posts Marisa won because she gave a great performance that 20 years on makes me laugh out loud
If you're so bored, why are you telling us about it?
sharePeople can't get past that My Cousin Vinny was a comedy. It was a great performance but her physical performance was exceptional. The facial expressions, attitude, body movements, etc....
Most likely the reason she won wasn't because she was the absolute best that year but rather because the others were all too close to the same, low budget dramas. It was up against Damage which was far from a blockbuster and where the supporting actress was overshadowed by the others in the film.... Husbands and Wives was a Woody Allen movie so people were supposed to think it was great but it was tripe... the other two movies that year were period pieces where they likely split the vote for that type of film/performance... In the end My Cousin Vinny grossed as much money at the box office as the other films combined so it was clearly more popular, seen by more people and that gave her an advantage.
