Looking back...was she really..

..all that good? I just finished watching 3 of her movies and it really made me stop and realize, she wasn't really a very good actress. I actually had to pause the movies several times as she was making me uncomfortable. I don't know know it was her voice, her appearance or her awful mannerisms, all I know was I needed a break! I know she's had several famous songs and a couple of movies that weren't too bad but all in all I have to say, "meh." In 25 years she won't be well remembered. She doesn't have the star quality that Garland or Sinatra had. Oh well...

I agree I have never found her to be that spectacular and actress, but "she's had several famous songs"? You have to be kidding

Which 3 movies were they?

I was wondering the same thing. As a comic actress, she is absolute gold standard. Utterly hilarious. As a dramatic actress, she is very good.....IF she is directed by someone else. When self directing, her dramatic performances definitely suffer (Yentl...one of the most Godawful films ever....or The Prince of Tides, for example.)

As far as her singing career is concerned, anyone who says she "just had a few hits here and there" is completely disconnected from reality. She is one of the most celebrated pop singers of all time.....and for good reason.

The problem is, she became far to selective with her film roles as if she is the greatest thing and needs to find a script good enough for her skills, which are actually limited in acting. She should have done double what she's done by now.

That I agree with. She has played it very safe with the roles she has chosen (for example - in comedy, it's usually the 'kooky outcast' who wins in the end). She has also made sure she has never co-starred with another leading actress, and usually has very handsome/masculine men opposite her.

As a singer, her voice is once-in-a-century. No one before her had her sound, and though she has obviously influenced some who came after, they fall far short of the original.

Disagree. She has a peer in Garland (whom I prefer hands down) and, with
males, Sinatra. It's a trio that cannot be topped.

Sinatra and Streisand have a far richer recording history, but Garland
is the single greatest female in film musicals, many of which, are
classics.
