Why do people hate Barbra Streisand?

I don't understand.... Is it because if a woman is successful, we want to criticize her and try to see her fail because she is not a man? She has political passion and loves to express her opinion?

There are many reasons. Certainly her political views turn people off,
although many right-wingers (you know, the sane ones) overlook that and
enjoy her work. Others are simply jealous of her overwhelming talent.
And others are genuinely turned off by her blatantly obvious ego, which
at times, gets irritating. She blames this on sexism, but I don't think
that's entirely fair. Her sense of self-worship can be a bit much.

My two cents.

I would say jealousy is first and foremost. I remember one celebrity once said (many decades ago) people love to see someone get a fresh start and do well...but not too well, for they become jealous and envious. As a former business owner, I can vouch for that. When I first started, almost everyone was happy for me (though a few sadly could not hide their jealousy). A the years went on, and my business grew successfully, more and more people became jealous of my success (and I can honestly say I always treated everyone with the same respect and consideration from day one...many of my loyal friends have said that over and over again). Jealousy is an ugly thing.

It’s not jealousy. It’s envy. Jealously means “a fear of someone taking something that you have (lover, property, prestige) from you.” Envy means that you covet what another has. The haters have nothing that she wants.

Why would that be your foremost thought? That doesn't explain why the very successful, Meryl Streep(among many women)is well-liked in the industry, nor actresses who are disliked but are not major successes. Why don't you like your co-worker at your job?

This goes back to what Streisand herself said "that people think stars are pieces of celluloid". Not everyone is an wannabe singer,so her singing is not necessarily an object of jealousy. It's like when a poster writes "how could Mary Tyler Moore not be liked by her co-star(s)?"

I find your reason that she is disliked for being a woman to be the most disturbing thing

I have to agree, quite frankly. It's much more than jealousy. Streisand
has NEVER known the meaning of the word "humble", and it grates on
people. She doesn't seem to realize how many fans pick up on her
self-importance and become turned off. Right or wrong, people love it
when the very talented and the very lucky bathe in humility. Streisand
has never gone down that road.

I guess that would be me, sort of. I don't agree with some of her political views but I still love her. Her beauty, passion and talent always superseded anything she may have said that I didn't agree with. Also, I know her heart is in the right place.

How does pvd know this? Take a poll?

You see, pvd, you keep assuming, reaching, needing, striving to believe the best about the woman, for obvious reasons. I've watched you do this for years. Yes, so-and so-thought she was the most charming person he ever met over their dinner--but it's because she is having dinner with him. And of ALL professions.

Wow..I knew an actress who actually had the opposite image of Streisand--all giggly and lovable--on camera, but she turned out to be a narcissist that I wish I never met. And it makes me think that if she was not what she seemed, how can Barbra be!? Though, it doesn't necessarily work that way, I realize.

Look at your family. Is everybody what they seem? And I hate to be soooo honest but: the Jewish stereotype is alive and well, yeah, it is. It does not mean all Jews are the same, but they learn from an early age to succeed, practically at all costs. And they have an arrogance that just beams from them. And Anne Francis was likely right all along.

so, now that the site is ending, I said it.

Wow, you are a very pessimistic person, always expecting the worst and darkest side in people - even those you have never met. It must be awful and depressing living in your world.
