Is this simply like automatic?

Meryl Streep is in a movie this year, she deserves a nomination this year. She is not a bad actress but come on this is getting boring and is not a surprise anymore. I know everytime when she is in a somehow decent movie and makes a decent performance, she'll receive a nomination. I can't believe that there's no fifth actress who could have taken her spot.

It should have gone to Michelle Williams for All the Money in the World.

She's underrated... Lost to Streep once and another time to Portman...

Meryl Streep getting nominated for an Oscar is state law at this point.

reply

Well, this is at least how it seems to be lol.

The same goes for Daniel Day-Lewis apparently... However, he simply doesn't make as many movies.

reply

Haha... It seems like it sometimes 😉 ... Also... He's incredible... I didn't think he'd do it yet again, but he was solid as Reynolds in Phantom Thread

Best actor category is very strong this year... Looking forward to seeing Oldman and Denzel's movies...

Even Daniel Kaluuya's performance for Get Out was good, although I think there were competitive performances even from other genre movies, like Colin Ferrel for The Killing of A Sacred Deer and Jeremy Renner for Wind River... I haven't seen Hostiles yet, but I'm looking forward to seeing Bale in another Western...

So many good actors and decent roles...

"So many good actors and decent roles..."

Exactly and it's not to trash talk or deny the strengths of their performances but... Streep and Day-Lewis both have 3 oscars so... Maybe we could give chances to some new names? There is still plenty of great actors and actresses out there who never even receive a nomination.

Country law now. DON'T MESS WITH MERYL.
