If she hadn't left England for Hollywood

Then she would probably be famous in Eastenders, or maybe Doctors

reply

Sorry...dont know those shows
BUT she has talent and real beauty...she would have done fine either way i bet!

reply

You would know them if you lived in the UK

reply

She might have starred in them if ST:TNG was a flop and lasted only one season, and she was forced to return home to the UK.

reply

She was offered the role of Daphne in Fraser which she turned down to stay in Next Gen.

I think most actors careers are made by a breakthrough role and getting them is as much luck as talent. By which I mean there is a lot of talented actors and relatively few roles and even fewer ones that will get you noticed. I like Marina Sirtis and I like her in other roles I've seen her in and she is beautiful and she's very funny in the films of the cons - but apart from all that and all the hard work she probably put in - she was lucky to be in the right place at the right time and got the TNG gig.
But referring back to the OP - not really. I don't believe Eastenders (a very long running evening soap of life in working class London) or (Doctors a long running lunch time soap based on a doctors practice some where in England (I think)) would have got her the same kind of fame. And I'd still be ignorant of her because I've never watched either.

if no Hollywood/Star Trek then yes shed have probably ended up in Eastenders in the 90s (and maybe shed still be in it even) shed have been like the hot cockney girl causing all kinds of trouble on the Square. And maybe some other regular stuff like Holby . she did guest star on that not too long ago as lots of big names of SF/Fantasy frequently guest star on that show – Julian Glover, Sarah Douglas, David Soul etc (the regular cast are pretty well known in SF too – the head guard from Phantom Menace is one of the leads, Paul McGann was in it for a good while, and more recently the one in charge of the hospital played the CG Peter Cushing in Rogue 1

reply

Yes, that's a perfectly reasonable alternative history. But it doesn't invalidate my poorly made point that actors in TNG are a little more famous than the EastEnders cast.
I live in the UK and I'm vaguely aware of the cast because it is a famous long running series - but I've never watched it I don't think many outside the UK have - I could be wrong? Regarding Doctors, I only knew it exists because Diane Keen was in it but again, never watched it myself.

No one outside uk watches EE. In fact not many in uk probably do now lol
