She was at the 2013 El Paso Sci Fi Fest. Some Hispanic toddler was gently touching her glossy photos, and she yelled, "Oh no - I have no compunction about slapping someone else's child!!" Then she was incredibly snide and arrogant during the Q & A. She truly is a great actor to have played such a caring person as Troi when the reality is this (the episode where she played a bitchy version of Troi must have been a walk in the park).

shareParents should control their children. As a toddler, my parents made sure I didn't touch things that I wasn't supposed to. Which is why they were able to take me to art museums without worrying if I was going to touch the paintings.
As for the Q&A. Snide and arrogant? I've been to her panels. She's sarcastic, and snarky. But I wouldn't say she's snide. She speaks her mind, and doesn't give a crap. She's from London, it's like being a New Yorker. On top of that, she is not Deanna Troi. She only plays her. Marina Sirtis is very outspoken and opinionated, very fiery. There are a lot of words you can use to describe her now iconic character, but "fiery" is not one of them. But, being a very outspoken and opinionated guy myself, I find her attitude at conventions to be refreshing, charming and a hell of a lot of fun. She speaks her mind and she doesn't take crap. I admire that in a woman. Hell, I admire that in anyone. And really, what has she said or done that is wrong? I can think of only one answer: she did not act like Troi. But that makes me happy, I've found the real Marina to be far more interesting than the iconic character she played. But, I like spitfires.
When you have a chance to see an actor live, keep this in mind... they are not their character. They will never be their character. You are getting a glimpse at who they really are. Don't act shocked when they are different. If they have a sense of humor that you don't share, do not assume they are being mean. Yes, like every other human being on the planet, they can have their bad days... but I doubt they go to these things to ruin anyone's day. If they hated interacting with fans, they flat out wouldn't go... plenty of people don't go and won't go. But if your problem is that she is an outspoken an opinionated woman then you are the one with terrible issues, not her.

Thirdly, it doesn't matter whether a toddler is "gently" touching something s/he isn't supposed to, for a number of reasons. That "gentle" touch can turn into grabbing and shredding without warning. Even "gentle" touches leave unspeakable, idiopathic kid residue, as anyone who's had to clean a window at knee height will tell you. And where was the kid's parent? Probably either dicking around on their phone or letting the little turd-cruncher paw other people's things.
Like the post below me says, Ms. Sirtis is not Deanna Troi. I'll probably never get to meet her, but admire those who are upfront and take no *beep* from others.

shareI went to a Star Trek convention in Seattle and she was one of the celebrities. I honestly cannot remember who else. William Shatner might have been there. I was young and she stood out for me. First, I had never heard her real voice, her accent and it sounded much better than what she does on Star Trek. Second, she looked more beautiful in person. At one point she turned around and wanted us to assess her 'bum'. The audience approved of it. Third, I got the impression she was a little wasted. Lastly, she had her autograph session and the line was huge. I forget what the cost of it was but she must have made a killing.
