Shatner has since stated in his new book that he was not invited to the funeral (at the time he said it was due to the Red Cross charity conflict but he says now that this was something of a cover for him not being welcome/invited to the funeral. Probably to prevent any further distress to the family at the time I would think) apparently Nimoy stopped all contact with Shatner for the past few years of his life despite Shatner attempting to reconnect..😢
Its possible Nimoy didn't want Shatner to see him in his weakening state as his illness got worse (I recently read this was the case with Burt Lancaster not wanting his long term friend Kirk Douglas to see him after his illness/stroke) also its been stated by both at times they had a fierce rivalry especially during the original series..not so much the movies where they became close friends.. so it could be that rivalry element may have resurfaced when they weret working with each other anymore or even seeing each other on a regular basis any more.. (and there was the using footage of Nimoy at a convention in one of Shatner documentaries without his permission which Shatner feels could've been a contributing factor)
and maybe Nimoy and/or the family didn't want him at the funeral as it would bring an inescapable 'Wrath of Khan' element to the proceedings (Spocks funeral, Kirks eulogy) which would've possibly made the funeral too 'Star Trek' and too 'fantasy' (omg Kirks at Spocks funeral but for real!..which could've garnered unwelcome press intrusion) in overshadowing the passing of Leonard Nimoy the man/husband/father/grandfather/actor/artist etc
