Lee Garlington ?

Stumbled on the premiere episode of Seinfeld, and while wondering where Julia Louis Dreyfuss would appear in the credits (2nd is good, but 4th following " ... and" is good also.
And what do I see? No JLD, but someone named Lee Garlington. Guy or girl? So I'm watching the show and I guess SHE is Clair, and she's a laconic waitress. Lasted all of one episode. What's the story behind that? Anyone know this actress? Guess she was in Field Of Dreams, but sure wasn't Amy Madigan.

reply

Lee (who played Claire the waitress) was only in the pilot episode. After that, she was removed from the show for some reason.

Thanks. I re-posted in the Seinfeld thread, got the show and the comedian confused.

No problem. I just found out a piece of info of why Lee wasn't around any further after the pilot episode. Her contract wasn't picked up.

reply

I heard she pissed of Larry David by improvising and changing lines.

That was my understanding, reinforced by this part of a Jason Alexander interview:

However, this article says even Jason may have gotten it wrong:

I remember seeing or reading somewhere that apparently Julia Louis Dreyfuss is an heiress to billions and billions, super rich and powerful.

Oh scratch that ... maybe, Vogue said this:

2. No, Louis-Dreyfus is not a billionaire heiress.
When a magazine asked about her father’s business, the Louis Dreyfus company, a commodities and shipping conglomerate, she set the record straight: Her father’s business is valued in billions. “It’s unbelievable, because whatever I do, people just assume it’s true,” she said. “Welcome to the fuckin’ Internet.” (For what it’s worth, after her lengthy career, Louis-Dreyfus is estimated to be worth around $200 million in her own right.)

Larry David is worth over a billion I've heard quoted.

reply

Forbes estimated her father's net worth at $3.4 billion in 2006. Regardless of JLD's ironic poor mouthing, she is heiress of a billionaire.

Plus the family owns 90% of a company valued in the billions, so saying the company is valued in the billion means her family has billions.]

On a side note, I admire nebbish Brad Hall for scoring the beautiful and rich JLD and living the life of a gigolo.
