No Oscar Nominations

I thought he had received a nomination for Tombstone. But I checked - he didn't. Tombstone didn't get any nominations at all.

An underrated performance was the movie "Silkwood." Cher and Meryl Streep got nominations, yet Russell didn't ...

Russell never received an Oscar nom

John Wayne only got and won for True Grit. Kurt needs to just get a movie to get the win.

He doesn't really go for those type of roles. He picks roles he can have fun with (and make money of course)

he's certainly a great actor. but im not sure if any of his performances were warranting an oscar nom, except maybe tombstone. he was outstanding in bone tomahawk and breakdown too, but i would've been very shocked if those got any oscar consideration. i dont think he's ever gone for a big oscar-baity performance.

Tombstone.. I got to put those cartoon 'staches out of my mind and finally watch this film. Every time I see a promo pic I think it's a comedy skit.

Give it a shot. I would place it around 8th on my favorite westerns list.

I'll have to. Too many good things said about it.

Silkwood was a possibility

Tombstone became a great film over the years, same as The Thing, but not given the respect it deserved when originally released.

Kurt is not the De Niro type. He doesn't do those actor-intense parts, but he is solid and charismatic on screen. And a great actor at that.

Of all his films, I think he should have been nominated for The Thing (1982). The film is seen as a masterpiece today, but in 1982 it was a complete failure. It would have been unthinkable to nominate it for anything. If the 1982 nominations had come out today... You would see The Thing and Blade Runner included.

As a beloved American actor from his youth, I can't think of anything he did that was Oscar worthy, but I think he deserves some kind of special commendation awards. Silkwood was a good movie, but the issue of nuclear power is too complicated to really make a movie that is anything more than scare tactic against nukes.

Not even tombstone?

Breakdown was a good performance I thought
