Kurt Russell Believes Actors Should 'Step Away from Saying Anything' Political.

Kurt Russell is talking about politics in Hollywood.

During a new interview, the 69-year-old actor says he thinks that actors should stay out of politics.

“I’ve always been someone who felt we are court jesters. That’s what we do,” Kurt shared with The New York Times.

“As far as I’m concerned, you should step away from saying anything so that you can still be seen by the audience in any character,” Kurt added.

Kurt did mention that there’s “no reason entertainers can’t learn just as much as anybody else about a subject, whatever it is.”

“But I think that what’s sad about it is that they lose their status as a court jester,” Kurt admitted. “And I’m a court jester. That’s what I was born to do.”

Kurt‘s longtime love Goldie Hawn was also part of the interview, and to her, she feels that celebrities voicing their political opinions is a “personal choice.”

It goes back to the old saying “practice what you preach.” If you’re going to be political then you should back up what you’re saying with actions. Otherwise you just look like a sanctimonious twat i.e. Bono

No, he got it backwards. Actors have a right to express their opinions.
It's the people who should stop listening to jesters, clowns and minstrels. Having an acting talent doesn't give one the right to influence other people's political choices.

The actors every right to express their opinions, and people have every right to tell them to piss off and not watch their movies anymore.

Russell didn’t say anything wrong. He just feels they shouldn’t preach about politics. He’s not trying to force anybody to do anything, just stating his opinion.

I used to love watching The Oscars, but the preaching has caused me to turn off all awards shows forever, and it bums me out, because I love celebrating movies. So the actors have every right to try and lecture and preach to us as much as they want to, and I have every right to turn off the channel, which I have.

He is so right. but then I wouldn't expect anything less from Kurt

Other stars should take onboard what he's said, but they won't .. the age of SM has pretty much destroyed the mystique of Hollywood stars anyway (well those that use it anyway)

Usually the actors who do not want to say anything are right-wing conservatives.

I don't go see movies if they have someone who I think is a right-wing conservative. Since I don't know about any particular actor or company I find myself withdrawing from media, or just paying for a streaming service like NetFlix or Hulu as opposed to buying tickets or DVDs, etc.

I have to class Kurt Russell as a right-winger now. He does have a point though. If a public figure who depends on popularity gets political they lose some part of their audience.

The myth of Hollywood being Liberal is only because most people are Liberal and they are pandering to numbers.

We are coming to a time where the public needs to make a lot of decisions ... smart decisions, and they need cold raw data, true data to do that, which is why all the right-wing does is lie - to disrupt the public's right to know, to undermine democracy.

Nicely said! I actually told a musician friend of mine weeks ago that we are the court jesters as well. I mentioned that was turning off at least 50% of his audience by suddenly being political activist butthole.
