Complications from a UTI??

That's what they said on local news last night. Must've been one hell of a UTI.

From wiki:
On December 24, 2020, Roberts fell out of bed and could not get up, following intestinal pain and breathing difficulties that began on a hike the day before.[22] She was taken to Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles and was later placed on a ventilator.[23][7][9] It was initially reported that Roberts died on January 3, 2021[24] after her partner, Lance O'Brien, told her manager that he had visited her in the hospital and "said goodbye".[25] O'Brien later clarified that this was an end-of-life visit; he had not been permitted to see her during her hospitalization due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but was invited to return when Roberts was taken off life support.[22] She was critically ill from a urinary tract infection that entered her organs and bloodstream, leading to a blood infection made worse due to Roberts's history of hepatitis C.[25][22] After the premature reports, O'Brien was informed by the hospital that she died in the evening of January 4, and confirmed this to the media on January 5.[25][3]

Hepatitis C is no joke either.

They are a real problem with elderly women, the longer it goes unchecked. Personality change, confusion. First thing to look for when they start acting strange. My mother had problems with it.

My wife's best friend's mom had this about a year ago. She's about 80 years old. Had a kidney infection that went into her blood. She wound up totally disoriented, could barely speak, could not recognize her family, acting irrationally. Everyone thought she was going to die or wind up a vegetable in a nursing home, but she made a full recovery after about a month of hospital care on extremely strong antibiotics.

She wasn't elderly, for someone well-to-do and well kept, and in decent health, age 65 is basically late middle age. UTIs are most likely to turn into deadly septic shock in frail elders, people over 80 or in very poor health.

I suspect she wasn't as healthy as she looked, or had refused to treat the problem early. Well, I wouldn't want to go to an ER in the LA Basin right now, either.
