people think marlon was the best actor ever, i wouldn't go that far

i worked in television with his sister Jocelyn. She thought i looked like him. Its the main reason i grew a mustache

reply

It's not just you; he definitely resembled Brando when he was younger (before the mustache).

reply

Burt Reynolds was SOLD as "the young Marlon Brando" on his first TV starring show "Hawk"(he'd been in Riverboat as support). This was back when he didn't wear the moustache and didn't do so much comedy.

But speaking of comedy, Burt did a spoof of Brando on one early 60s episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents.

Word is that Brando indeed hated Burt Reynolds for being sold as "the young Marlon." Reynolds claimed that Brando vetoed Reynolds to play either Sonny(the right part) or Michael(the wrong part) in The Godfather.

And in his 1978 Playboy interview, Brando insulted Burt Reynolds so much along the way that at one point he said, "Burt Reynolds. I don't know why I have it in for that poor egg."

Irony: came the 70s, when Burt Reynolds became more of a comic talent, he was said to be channeling folks like Cary Grant, James Garner, and Johnny Carson in his work...people forgot he even looked like Brando.

reply

Yeah, I forgot too, until I saw him without his mustache; anyway, interesting minutiae.

reply

Yeah I see a strong resemblance.

reply

I always noticed the resemblance, but I always thought that John Saxon and Burt looked like brothers with Charles Bronson being their uncle.

reply

Yeah in Deliverance totally. He made bubba an offer he couldn’t refuse.

reply

Yes, they bare some resemblance but only when comparing young, mustache free Burt Reynolds to young Marlon Brando. Reynolds had distinctly thicker eyebrows, slightly more "squinted" eyes and an overall "stronger" face than the comparatively softer face of young Brando.
