I don't think so. In early 1966, Polanski was in England shooting "Fearless Vampire Killers" with Sharon Tate. Polanski later on became McQueen's friend for a short period through Sharon Tate who had had relationships with both the married-family-man-but-always-womanizing McQueen and his hair-dresser friend Jay Sebring, who was Tate's boyfriend before Polanski. According to legend the 2 even double-teamed Tate on more than one occasion. Both McQueen and Polanski, as well as James Coburn, Lew Alcindor (later Kareem Abdul Jabaar), and McQueen's next-door neighbor James Garner, used to take martial arts lessons from Bruce Lee. The Polanski/McQueen friendship ended when McQueen did not attend Tate's funeral due to paranoia about being on the target list for killing by the Manson gang.

McQueen hanging out with Polanski and Tate. You can see from the love in Tate's eyes and the way she's looking at McQueen, that had he not been married with kids, she would have been not just one of his hundreds of mistresses but probably one of his future ex-wives.

Also, Polanski being a 5 foot 3 midget or whatever his height is, looks totally "beta" in front of the ultimate Hollywood tough-guy alpha rebel and hipster McQueen.

There are also shots on the same page of McQueen hanging out with his friends Miles Davis and Bill Wyman of the Rolling Stones. In the Wyman shot, in particular, its quite obvious that McQueen is coked out of his skull.

This is a great little French site with lots of very rare photos posted. McQueen was the biggest American star in France as far back as 1963 when "Wanted Dead of Alive" was a hit on French Television. He couldn't go anywhere in France without being mobbed like the Beatles.
