It can't be easy for Redford getting older

He was a really good looking man 40 years ago. It must be hard to look in the mirror and see an old man staring back.

Not really getting the point of your post. Getting older is a fact of life. I think the fact he's still acting as much as he does prove he hadn't let his age affect him.

I think what the OP meant was that Redford, more than most men living on this planet, was known for his youthful beauty and thus having to say goodbye to that quality must be especially difficult for him.

And yes -- granted -- Redford was and remains more than just a pretty face: He is a highly gifted actor and a very good filmmaker.

Granted granted granted. You don't have to say it because I'M saying it first. See? I just said it. That was me saying it. And I just pointed out that I just said it. I pointed it out TWICE, in fact. So it's like I just said it THREE times.

So once again: Great actor. Talented filmmaker.

But his name was -- ya gotta admit --
synonymous with youthful male beauty.

So he had more to lose when he got older.

It's hard for EVERYONE to grow older - whether you're good looking while young or not. Each person will have these issues that they must learn to deal with - some lose their hearing, some will get diabetes, some will (like me) have back issues, and each of us only lose more as the years go by. I'm watching my 92 year old mother, who has some dementia but still knows us and the Lord, get up every day and walk with a walker. One thing that has stood her in good stead are her unbelievably strong arms. She weighs about 175 lbs and I watch her grab a handicap rail and pull herself up out of the wheelchair to stand.

When you think about life from that perspective, fading looks are definitely down the list.

This positively infantile preoccupation with bosoms!Terry-Thomas about US 1963.Hasnt changed much!

There's a science fiction novel by Robert Silverberg called DYING INSIDE, about a man who is gradually losing his ability to read minds.

In other words, it's about someone who had a very rare gift and who enjoyed the benefits of that gift...

And now it's going away.

Yes, it's a science fiction novel, but I think the analogy is clear.

And of course, no one's asking anyone to "mourn" for Redford over the loss of his extraordinary good looks as if he had cancer or something. That would be silly.

But let's not pretend it's been easy for him. How the hell could it be? Do you think it's easy for a once-ravishing woman to lose her good looks? (I didn't ask if it's a "fact of life," because of course it's a fact of life. The question is: Is it easy?)

It's not easy for me him getting older, I'll tell you that! I watch his films so often when he was younger (and I'm pretty sure he's the best looking person to ever grace the planet)- I always forget he's got older so when I see him in recent films I'm like 'oh yeeeah, he's an old man now!'
