Ahead of his time

I think Anthony was ahead of his time on-screen, and off-screen!

Yep.

SPOILERS FOR PSYCHO:

He said in an interview some years later about Psycho that when he was deciding whether or not to play the decidedly strange "title role" -- with intimations of cross-dressing, incest, and homicidal mania -- "to me the question was this: was I ready to start the 60s?" And he took on the challenge. He got his biggest hit and his greatest fame but -- he became a very "sick puppy" to a lot of people real fast.

So he started making movies in Europe and THAT was ahead of its time too. Clint Eastwood and Charles Bronson and others would FOLLOW Perkins to Europe and European films.

One of those films in Europe was "The Trial," directed by Orson Welles, who became fast friends with Perkins and put him here in a legitimate art film. So: more ahead of his time.

And on and on and on.

Perkins' private life and how he lived it was ...ahead of his time, too.
